The UCLA softball team will try to move up in the Pac-12 standings this weekend when they face a good California Golden Bears team. The Bruins are in fifth place in the conference with a record of 5-7. Their overall record is 30-12. The Bears are 25-13 overall and 3-8 in conference play so the Bruins will have their hands full against California on Friday (Today) at 7 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. After the California series the Bruins will have nine more conference games remaining and six of those games will be on the road. This season the Bruins rely on the pitching of Rachel Garcia and Selina Ta'amilo and the hitting of infielder Kylee Perez, freshman Bubba Nickles, catcher and first baseman Madeline Jelenicki and shortstop Delany Spaulding. The Bruins have made some changes on offense and defense that head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez hopes will give the 13th ranked Bruins the edge they need to move up in the conferencestandings. We did not start the Pac-12 the way we wanted to, said Inouye-Perez.
We had a lot of things going on but we went to work to try to get the best out of our players.Right now the Bruins are trying to focus on playing UCLA softball. It does not matter who we play right now because we are trying to play the best softball we can but we are still working on our consistency, said Inouye-Perez. We are trying to play great softball in 2017 so we can make a run at the National Championship.
