Sparks To Play Their Last Regular Season Home Game

The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA will end their regular season against San Antonio tonight (Friday) at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Sparks are 25-8 and securely in second place going into the eight-team playoffs.

After the Olympic break the Sparks had some problems recapturing their winning ways. Last Tuesday they looked like the team that set WNBA and Sparks records before the Olympic break. They beat a good Phoenix Mercury team 90-85.

Against the Mercury Nneka Ogwumike scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Chelsea Gray came off the bench to score 23 and Jantel Lavender also came off the bench to score 17 points.

"Chemistry, effort, communication and defense will keep us playing at a high level" said veteran guard Alana Beard after their win on Tuesday. "We got back to doing the little things as a team and we have continued to work through the adversity we had on the court recently."

Beard continued to say "It felt good to get back to that tonight because I know we have each others' back. When everyone is doing their part it feels good. You are happy for your teammates and you are excited to be out there on the court because you know you only have to do your part. When that happens we are a heck of a team."
