With the annual Medicare Open Enrollment Period (Oct. 15-Dec.7) right around the corner, many Los Angeles residents are looking for resources to learn about their health care coverage options.
In its fifth year, National Medicare Education Week begins one month before the start of Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period and offers educational events and resources to help seniors, Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers understand Medicare.
With more than 56 million Americans already enrolled in Medicare – including 1,394,737 in the Los Angeles area – and 10,000 individuals turning 65 every day, the need for clear information is growing.
The goal of National Medicare Education Week is to help make Medicare easier to understand by engaging with baby boomers, Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers through educational events and resources.
The week was established by UnitedHealthcare in 2012 and is supported by Walgreens, Caregiver Action Network, National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, SilverSneakers®, and AARP®, as well as local health care providers, senior centers and other organizations nationwide. In Los Angeles this includes the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation.
UnitedHealthcare is holding educational events in the Los Angeles area where a local UnitedHealthcare representative will address people’s top questions and be available to speak one-on-one.
