Los Angeles Suffers First 2016 Preseason Loss
The Los Angeles Rams suffered their first exhibition loss, 17-9, on the road to the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium on Saturday night August 27. Once again the Rams were trailing at halftime but couldn't rally from behind as the team had done in their first two wins of the 2016 preseason.
The Rams took a two field goal lead on the kicking of Greg Zuerlein to take a 6-0 lead before the Broncos drove 72 yards for a touchdown. Zuerlein added a 48-yard field goal to help Los Angeles retake the lead, 9-7, but Denver converted a field goal to grab the lead just before the half ended.
Denver running back Ronnie Hillman ran seven yards at 11:38 of the 3rd quarter for the only score in the second half. The Ram defense only gave up 299 total yards and held the Bronco offense to a 26% third down efficiency ratio.
Starting L.A. quarterback Case Keenum directed drives to set up the first two field goals. He completed 8/12 passes for 77 yards. Jared Goff replaced Keenum in the 2nd quarter, had one scoring drive and finished 4/12 for 45 yards. Sean Mannion replaced Goff late in the 3rd quarter and was 6/12 for 43 yards.
