The Culver City Police Department is looking for new recruit
s for its Explorer Program.
This youth program is designed to provide young men and w
omen, between the ages of 14-
19, with life skills, character education and leadership exp
erience to become a productive
member of society in addition to having the opportunity
to start a future career in law
enforcement.
Culver City Police Explorers will receive the highest level of
law enforcement instruction an
d
hands
-on experience such as participating in ride-alongs and assi
sting Culver City Police
Officers with their duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be between the ages of 14-
19
Applicants must maintain at least a
“
C
”
average in school (GPA: 2.0 or better)
Applicants must have good moral character without any ser
ious arrest record
Applicants must be in good physical health
Applicants must pass a background investigation
Applicants must pass an oral interview
Applicants must complete the Basic Explorer Academy
Basic Explorer Academy:
The next Basic Explorer Academy Orientation and Registration
will be held at the Los
Angeles County Sheriff
’
s Department Training Center in Whittier. Instruction tenta
tively
begins on August 27 and will be held on each subsequent
Saturday for the following 18
weeks. Full participation is mandatory. Transportation to/
from the Academy will be provided
from the Culver City Police Department. Fee: $55
Participation:
Explorers attend bi-monthly meetings year round that are d
esigned to continue the Explorer
’
s development in life skills, character education and leade
rship experience. The meetings
will consist of lectures, demonstrations, physical training, te
amwork, and leadership
development activities related to law enforcement. Explore
rs will also train in law
enforcement tactics to compete against other Explorer programs
in various national
competitions.
Upon completion of the Basic Explorer Academy, Explorers have t
he opportunity to work
alongside Culver City Police Officers during special events, a
ssist with duties around the
station, participate in ride-alongs, field trips, and earn
community service credit.
Costs:
Basic Explorer Academy: $55
Learning for Life Membership: $24 annually
