UCLA Softball Advances To NCAA Championships

The No. 12 UCLA Bruin’s softball team started its run to the NCAA championship last Thursday when they played No. 4 Auburn in Oklahoma City. Their next game will be Friday or Saturday and if they keep winning in the double elimination tournament they will battle for the championship on Monday at 5 p.m.

The Bruins are 40-14-1 while the Tigers are 54-10. The other six teams in the championship tournament are Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, LSU, Florida and Georgia. All of the teams are capable of winning the championship.

The Bruins reached the championship round by beating Pac-12 rival Oregon twice last Sunday in the Super Regionals at Oregon. “We have gotten better throughout the season and I have seen this team come together,” said UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez.

The Bruins are led by All-Americans Allexis Bennett, Delany Spaulding and Mysha Sataraka. Bennett is batting .412 with 12 stolen bases and 57 runs scored. Spaulding is hitting .345 with 17 home runs and 61 runs batted in and Sataraka is hitting .374 with 12 home runs.

This year the Bruins rely on three pitchers to get the job done. Paige McDuffee, Johanna Grauer and Selina Ta’amilo have done a great job for UCLA so far this season.
