On Sunday, June 12 from noon until 1:30 pm Culver-Palms United Methodist Church will present a program on "Unaccompanied Minors and Their Families: The Central American Refugee Crisis."
The speaker will be Guillermo Torres, a faith-rooted organizer with CLUE (Clergy & Laity United for Economic Justice). In the summer of 2015, Mr. Torres joined an interfaith delegation at the Guatemalan-Mexican border to observe first-hand the dangers these child migrants face.
He will discuss what motivates Central American families to send their children on such a dangerous journey and on the efforts to find new families for the children who manage to reach the United States. Several migrants will also be at the meeting to relate their personal experiences.
An optional lunch from El Pollo Loco will be provided for a suggested donation of $8. Reservations for lunch are strongly encouraged. RSVP to Culver-Palms UMC at 310: 390-7717 or culverpalmsumc@yahoo.com. The church is located at 4464 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City.
Free parking is available.
The public is also invited to attend the morning worship service led by Pastor Leonardo Wilborn, which begins at 10:30 am.
