#14 UCLA Wins Fifth-Straight Baseball Game

The No. 14 UCLA Bruins defeated the Washington State Cougars, 11-2, to win their fifth-straight baseball game and clinch the series sweep. This marks the eighth consecutive victory for UCLA over Washington State and the seventh-straight series victory over the Cougars.

The Bruin offense was too much to handle for Washington State, racking up 11 runs on seven hits. Eric Filia (2-for-4, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI) led the way, belting his second home run of the season. Luke Persico (3-for-4, 2 R) was also strong, racking up a season-high three hits.

The UCLA pitching was also spectacular, with freshman starter Kyle Molnar (2-1) earning the victory. Molnar went a career-high seven innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, while striking out a career-high 11 batters. The right-hander retired the last 13 batters he faced, including a stretch of eight-straight strikeouts.

UCLA is 11-7 overall and 3-0 in conference games

UCLA will continue Pac-12 Conference play when it travels to play Arizonain Tucson. The three-game series begins on Thursday, March 24 and all three games can be heard live on uclabruins.com.
