Culver Basketball Girls Score Big Upset!

Centaurs Beat Long Beach Power Millikan High to Advance in CIF Playoffs

The Culver City High girls basketball team overcame a big deficit at home and upset Long Beach power Millikan High on Saturday evening, February 20, at Del Goodyear Gymnasium, 72-69, in the 2nd Round of the CIF Division 1AA Playoffs.

The Centaurs were led by Kailey Tooke's sublime 46 points, 28 coming in the second half after the Culver girls trailed 45-30 at halftime. Heaven Cooper added 11 points, Kate Suyetsugu 5, Windy Yoon 4, Alexis Arancibia 4 and Amy Yoon 2.

Culver City will now travel to face South Bay power Redondo Union High on Wednesday, February 24, at 7:00 p.m. The Sea Hawks were undefeated this season in the Bay League and have an 20-8 overall record compared to the Centaurs at 20-7.

The Culver girls had earlier defeated Arcadia High, 62-42, in a 1st Round matchup at home on Thursday, February 18. Tooke led all scorers with 26 points. Amy Yoon and Windy Yoon scored 9 each, Lauren Jones added 6, Arancibia 4, Cooper and Hayley Yamamoto 3 each, and Angel Morris with 2.
