The Historic Culver Hotel Launched a New Gallery Space for the LA Art Show

On Saturday evening, January 30 The Culver Hotel welcomed over 250 visitors to a private, VIP reception in conjunction with the LA Art Show and the Los Angeles Fine Art Show and the city’s Bruce Lurie Gallery.

The circa 1924 landmark hotel used the “Vernissage” event to launch new gallery space on the second floor. This event was the first in an ongoing series of art programs the Culver Hotel is planning to showcase the thriving Culver City Arts District and art scene.

Reflecting the classic-meets-modern redesign of the historic boutique hotel, the opening exhibited works by classic Hollywood photographer George Hurrell - whose images of screen icons from Clark Gable to Jean Harlow have epitomized the glamour and style of Hollywood stars since the 1920’s - as well as contemporary artists including Justin Lyons, Michael Suchta, Gary John and the late Steve Kaufman.

For the Opening Night Premiere Party at the LA Art Show and the Los Angeles Fine Art Show on January 27 The Culver Hotel also brought its Grand Lobby ambiance to Downtown LA by creating a mini ‘Culver inspired’ lounge featuring a taste of its nightly live jazz during the Opening Night Premiere Party at the L.A. Art Show

Maya Mallick, owner and designer of The Culver Hotel, has always embraced art as an intrinsic part of the vintage property as well as a reflection of the evolution of the City itself. While classic films like Gone with the Wind and the Wizard of Oz were shot in Culver City in the 1930’s Culver City was voted ‘10 Best Art Districts in the U.S.’ this past year by USA Today.

“Showcasing art exhibits at the hotel was part of my vision for reimagining this iconic property,” explains Mallick, also credited with restoring and reviving the historic landmark. “The hotel has always been at the center of the city’s imaginative soul – a gathering point for artists and creatives and a reflection of its personality.” The dynamic neighborhood continues to thrive with artistic innovation with its studios, galleries, restaurants and new Metro service further validating founding father Harry Culver’s mantra that ‘All roads lead to Culver City.’ For more information on the Culver Hotel visit http://www.culverhotel.com.
