Peter O'Malley to Present Vin Scully With 'Lifetime Achievement Award'

Former Los Angeles Dodgers President Peter O’Malley will present Vin Scully with the L.A. Sports Council’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” during the 11th Annual LA Sports Awards, which will be held on Thursday, February 25 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The two will engage in a 10-minute on-stage conversation during the show.

O’Malley and Scully bonded when they were roommates on the Brooklyn Dodgers’ 1956 Goodwill Tour to Japan. Peter’s father, Walter O’Malley, owner of the Dodgers, made the arrangements for the historic trip.

“I am always happy to spend time with my longtime friend Vin Scully,” said O’Malley. “Especially on an evening when he is receiving the well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award from the Los Angeles Sports Council and I know everyone will enjoy as he reminisces about his remarkable career.”

O’Malley served as president of the Dodgers from 1970-1998. Today he is chairman of Historic Dodgertown–Vero Beach, Florida, the site of Dodger Spring Training camps from 1948-2008 and now a premier year-round, multi-sport training site and conference center.

Widely regarded as the greatest baseball announcer of all time, Scully’s upcoming season will be his 67th and final season with the Dodgers, the longest time any broadcaster has been with a single team in professional sports history.

The ceremony will be televised by Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket (air dates TBA).
