Blake Griffin Named 2015 Sportsman of the Year

The Los Angeles Sports Council has named Clippers star Blake Griffin as the 2015 Sportsman of the Year. Griffin will be honored at the 11th Annual LA Sports Awards, which will be held on Thursday, February 25 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Griffin is being recognized for his many outstanding achievements in 2015. He was chosen by NBA fans worldwide as a starting forward for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game (though he was unable to participate due to injury). Then, in the first round of the NBA playoffs, his play led the Clippers to victory over the San Antonio Spurs in seven games. Griffin was the dominant player in that series, averaging 24 points and 13 rebounds per game (including a triple-double in the series clincher) to knock off the defending champions.

The LA Sports Awards are presented annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

The ceremony also will feature the presentation of the Sportswoman, Coach, and Sports Executive of the Year Awards, plus a countdown of the year’s Top 10 moments.

The star-studded awards banquet will be televised by Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket (air dates TBA), and will include special appearances by some of the athletes and coaches whose achievements helped make 2015 a memorable sports year.

Griffin is the third Clippers player to win the Sportsman Award, joining 2013 honoree Chris Paul and 2006 recipient Elton Brand.
