CTG To Host College, Career Fair

Center Theatre Group invites current high school students, parents and teachers to attend the first College & Career Fair for the Arts on February 6, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Presented in collaboration with the California State Summer School for the Arts (CSSSA) Foundation, the fair will take place at the Music Center Annex located at 601 W. Temple St. in Downtown L.A.

More than 35 local colleges, universities and community organizations will be in attendance including USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, Chapman University, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and more.

The fair will also feature artmaking and giveaways, a food truck with free lunch (11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and four free workshops. Guests are welcome to stop by at any point during the fair; however, students are advised to RSVP in advance in order to guarantee a spot in workshops of interest. Workshops are available to students only.

The first workshop at 11 a.m. will address paying for college with information about Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), student loans, preparing applications, scholarships and financial aid. The second workshop with advice about working in Los Angeles theatre will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will feature a panel of local theatre professionals. At 2 p.m., CTG will host a third workshop with tips on college auditions for theatre students from representatives of USC, Los Angeles City College, CalArts and more. The final workshop at 3:30 p.m. covers college and career options for those interested in the arts and features a panel of theatre artists who will discuss how their educational backgrounds affected their career path.

“Los Angeles boasts a wealth of experienced professionals, amazing programs and excellent organizations focused on supporting our young people and their creative development as artists,” said CTG Education and Community Partnerships Director Leslie K. Johnson. “Center Theatre Group is delighted to serve as a hub where students, educators and parents can learn more about this range of educational and career opportunities in the arts.”

To RSVP, students can email [email protected] with the following details: the student’s full name, school, grade and which workshops he or she would like to attend. Those who RSVP prior to arrival will receive a free gift. More information about the College & Career Fair is available at CenterTheatreGroup.org/education/Emerging-Artists/college-career-fair.
