Dennis Gilbert to Receive Humanitarian Award

Dennis Gilbert will be honored with the Dave Winfield Humanitarian Award at the event he founded, when the 13th annual Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation’s “In the Spirit of the Game” Fundraiser is held Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

In addition to Gilbert, popular television talk show host Larry King will receive special recognition for all he has done for the game and the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation, former Dodgers base-stealing wizard Maury Wills will receive the Player Lifetime Achievement Award, New York Mets manager Terry Collins will receive the Tommy Lasorda Managerial Achievement Award and Andre Dawson will receive the Scout’s Dream Award for Outstanding Achievement in Baseball History. King will be presented with his award by Regis Philbin, Ryan Seacrest and Ashton Kutcher.

In the past 12 years, many of Major League Baseball’s current and former stars have been among the 1,500 guests attending the affair to assist those scouts who have given so much back to the game. The foundation was started and continues to be led by Gilbert, who has helped raise over $1.6 million for the scouts.

Hall of Famer Winfield and Chicago White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf will present the award to Gilbert, who played baseball at Gardena High, Los Angeles City College and for four years in the minor leagues before launching a highly-successful career in the insurance business and as a sports agent, where he broke salary barriers on behalf of such clients as Bret Saberhagen, Jose Canseco, Bobby Bonilla, Barry Bonds, Joe Magrane, Danny Tartabull, Mike Piazza, Brady Anderson, Curt Schilling, Ricky Henderson, Kevin Appier, Scott Erickson, Rod Beck and Trevor Hoffman.
