Also returning is fan-favorite Viennese soprano Patricia Nessy and Canadian tenor Adam Luther who will perform with members of the Kiev-Aniko Ballet of Ukraine and International Champion Ballroom Dancers. An enchanting way to celebrate the New Year with the entire family.
Salute to Vienna celebrates more than 20 years of New Year’s concerts, rounding off the holiday season with performances in 23 North American cities this year.
More than 60,000 concert-goers will party like it’s 1899 between December 27 and January 3, when Salute to Vienna will kick off 2016 in the 80-year old tradition of Vienna’s world famous “Neujahrskonzert”.
This concert is a musical confection. Discover the timeless pleasure of Vienna’s most beautiful music for the first time this year, or continue the tradition with 2016’s fresh new cast and concert.
A Salute to Vienna concert was recorded for Public Television when they returned to the city of its inspiration for a full-house performance at Vienna’s Konzerthaus in 2013, co-hosted by internationally-renowned mezzo-soprano, Frederica von Stade and Academy Award-winning actor, Maximilian Schell.
This made-for-public-television concert has aired more than 930 times (on over 80% of all PBS stations), and featured over 130 performers including the Symphony Orchestra of the Volksoper, The Vienna Boys Choir, world-renowned singers, and dancers from the Association Vienna State Opera Ballet.
What Nutcracker means to Christmas, Salute to Vienna means to the New Year.
