Olympic gold medalists Apolo Anton Ohno and Lisa Fernandez are among six new members elected to the Los Angeles Sports Council’s board of directors for the 2016-17 term.
Ohno competed in three Winter Olympic Games in short track speed skating, taking home a total of eight medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 4 bronze).
Fernandez, perhaps the most heralded female softball player ever, helped lead Team USA to the gold medal as a pitcher/infielder at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Games. She is currently assistant softball coach at UCLA.
Also joining the board:
• Andy Cohen, Co-CEO, Gensler
• Nicole Duckett Fricke, General Counsel, Los Angeles Clippers
• Tom Penn, President, Los Angeles Football Club (the new MLS franchise)
• Timothy Romer, Managing Director, Goldman Sachs
“These new members will greatly enhance this organization’s role of attracting major sporting events to our community,” said Sports Council Chair Karen Brodkin.
The newly elected directors also will serve as directors of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games.
