Center Theatre Group is hosting Theatre Crash Course, a free workshop series for high school students interested in learning more about directing, acting, scenic design, lighting design or costume design.
Students will collectively develop design concepts and investigate scenes from "Father Comes Home from the Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3)," which will play at the Mark Taper Forum in April. Ideas will then be presented to friends and family at the final workshop.
The workshop series will take place on September 28 and October 5 from 6 pm to and on October 12 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 at the Music Center Annex located at 601 W. Temple St. in Downtown L.A.
The workshops are open to all high school students and no prior theatre experience is necessary. Participants must be available on all three dates to take part in the series.
To participate, students can email [email protected] with the following details: the student's full name, school, grade, email address, phone number, their top two areas of interest and if parking reimbursement is needed.
Theatre Crash Course is presented by CTG's Education and Community Partnerships department, whose Student Body program regularly brings free workshops to students on a variety of subjects.
Students can sign up for the Student Body mailing list, created for 13-23 year olds who are interested in the arts. Student Body members hear about free workshops, specially priced ticket offers and chances to mingle with peers at events designed for, by and about the next generation.
More information is available at CenterTheatreGroup.org/StudentBody.
CTG's Education and Community Partnerships department, led by Leslie K. Johnson, is one of the most active theatre education programs in the country, reaching close to 20,000 students, teachers and community members throughout Southern California.
The department is dedicated to the development of artists, educators, community members and young people's skills and creativity through the exploration of theatre, its literature, art and imagination.
