Wife of Late Mayor Richard Alexander Was 79
A memorial service was held on Friday August 14 in Culver City at Temple Akiba. She passed away at home on Wednesday morning, surrounded by her three daughters.
Ann Alexander (Andy) was instrumental in establishing the CC Youth Health Center (now the Sandy Segal Youth Heath Center) at Culver City High in 1984. She was active in helping the center grow and raise donations to fund the center. It was a major passion in her life.
She enjoyed sharing her other passions, poems and music with her family and friends. She and her husband, former mayor/councilman and PRCS Commissioner Richard Alexander, purchased their home in Culver City across the street from the Culver High football field where the annual fireworks show was held for many years. They always held a 4th of July party for friends and whoever wanted to stop by.
Born in Chicago in 1936, she moved to Southern California when she was five years old. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her daughters Kim (Bob) Alexander Anton, Karen (Fred) Alexander Eines, Deborah Alexander, niece Lorre and nephew Jarvis.
Her wishes that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Sandy Segal Youth Health Center or Temple Akiba.
Her parting wish as she was slipping away her daughter Kim said that Mom asked them to tell everyone "people should care about people, that they extend themselves beyond themselves and to be kind, but be kinder."
Truly words to live by.
