Doris Elizabeth Sayer was born May 22, 1923 in Middletown, NY, the only child of Frederick Winfried Posl and Gladys Caroline LaRue. God called her home on April 26, 2015 from Lantana, TX after fighting the dementia that robbed her of all the wonderful family memories she had made in almost 92 years of living.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Leo Lewis Sayer, who died in 2007 and her son, Jerry Lee Sayer, who died in 2013. Doris graduated from Middletown high school in 1941 and planned on becoming a teacher, but she fell in love with Leo and married him on February 24, 1943. She travelled with Leo around the United States while he served in the US Army during WWII. They bought a home in Middletown, NY where they lived until 1963, when they moved to Culver City for their daughter's health.
Doris loved her job at MGM studios (now SONY studios) as a bookkeeper, until her retirement in 1985. She loved small children, gardening, dancing and helping her neighbors in time of need. After Leo died, she moved to Highland Village, TX to be near her daughter and enjoy her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her Baba.
Those left to mourn her are her daughter, Judy (Bill) Wood of Highland Village, TX; three grandchildren: Larry (Lauren) Wood of Houston, TX, Danny (Christina) Wood of Corinth, TX and Laura (Keith)
Thornton of Flower Mound, TX and six great grandchildren: Nicholas, Katie, Morgan, Britny, KJ, Liam and a host of friends and extended family.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Roxanne and Charlie Evans, all the Hope House caregivers and Arden Hospice staff for all their love and care given Mom during the last year of her life.
Family and friends will celebrate her life privately and burial will take place at the family's convenience at the Wallkill Cemetery near Middletown, NY. In lieu of flowers, tax deductible donations may be made to the William Bull & Sarah Wells Stone House Association at 183 County Route 51, Campbell Hall, NY 10916 in Doris' name.
