The Los Angeles Sports Council has named Kings President and General Manager Dean Lombardi as the 2014 Sports Executive of the Year.
Lombardi, the architect of the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions, will be honored during the 10th Annual LA Sports Awards, presented by Coca-Cola, on Sunday, March 15 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
A veteran of nearly 30 NHL seasons in the front office as an executive and a scout -- including the past eight with the Kings -- Lombardi has a well-earned reputation for being one of hockey's true visionaries, constructing a championship roster that has brought the franchise two Stanley Cups in three years.
As the man responsible for all hockey operations decisions, Lombardi made the shrewd in-season trade last March to acquire forward Marian Gaborik, who went on to lead the NHL with 14 postseason goals during Los Angeles' run to the title.
The LA Sports Awards are produced annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.
Pevious Sports Executive of the Year honorees are: Stan Kasten, Dodgers (2013); Tim Leiweke, AEG (2012); Arte Moreno, Angels (2011); Tim Leiweke, AEG (2010); Jerry Buss, Lakers (2009); Mitch Kupchak, Lakers (2008); Brian Burke, Ducks (2007); Ned Colletti, Dodgers/Brian Burke, Ducks (2006); Arte Moreno, Angels (2005).
