You wouldn’t think of an attorney’s office as the setting of a holiday toy giveaway to needy kids.
The Law Offices of Hinden and Breslavsky, on the corner of Pico and Rimpau, is indeed just that kind of place in the month of December.
For the past seven Decembers Barry Hinden, the firm’s president, has converted his file-and-book-filled library into a literal “toyland” for the children of his clients, most of whom are Latino workers who have been injured on the job.
“We don’t want the children of our clients to lose out on Christmas,” says Hinden. “Many of our clients are disabled to some degree because of injury. Many are out of work. Many are not getting benefits.
”Hinden is a past president of the California Applicants Attorney’s Association, a statewide association of about 1,000 lawyers specializing in workers’
compensation cases. He and his partners personally go out in an employee’s pickup truck to buy the gifts
“We stock up with toys for tots to teens,” he says. “If we run out, we go out and buy more. No child leaves our office without a toy.”
During December the firm’s busy practice becomes even busier, with the comings and goings of clients − and their children − who have been invited to visit and pick out gifts. Each year, more than 1,000 clients have taken advantage of the firm’s generosity.
“It’s just a small way in which we can give back to the community and help put smiles on the faces of kids who might otherwise go without,” says Hinden, whose firm has been serving the community for 40 years. http://www.hinden.net/
