Less than two weeks before his 90th birthday Meyer "Mike" Meyerson of Culver City was killed by a suspected drunk driver on October 4 as he was leaving Yom Kippur services at Veteran’s Auditorium.

The accident happened at around 10 pm as Meyerson was crossing Overland Avenue after leaving the services held by Temple Akiba at Vets.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene. According to Culver City Police Lt. Jason Sims, “Alcohol was a factor.”

The case has been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for possible charges against the driver. Police have not yet released his name.

Mike created and ran Meyerson Tax Service where he personally prepared nearly 400 tax returns yearly. According to his family it gave him great joy to help his clients, although he always referred to them as his friends.

In addition, his greatest joy in life was to help others and never said no to anyone in need. He was a kind and loving soul with a heart of gold.

Mike loved dancing, and in 1967 he met the love of his life, Alice, at a ballroom dance. They fell in love, married and danced for 47 years until she passed in May 2013.

Meyerson is an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII in the Northern Pacific Ocean. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

Services were held on Friday, October 10, in the Eternal Light Chapel of Groman Eden Mortuary. Services were officiated by Rabbi Zachary Shapiro, and concluded with internment in Eden Memorial Park.
