With the college football season coming up, Lane Kiffin is my topic for the day.

A brief resume: Kiffin has been head coach with the Oakland Raiders and with Tennessee and USC. The Trojans fired him last season after they got off to a slow start.

Now Kiffin has become offensive co-ordinator at Alabama on Nick Saban's staff.

"Considering everything I'm veryhappy to have this job before I reach 40," said Kiffin. "I thought this would be a great opportunity if it ever presented itself.

Kiffin admits he's made mistakes when he was head coach. Perhaps now he'll do better concentrating on football rather than dealing with the many other responsible of a head coach.

His close friend, Steve Sarkisian, has become USC's head coach.

KIffin and Saban have had a long relationship and many years ago they discussed the possibility of Kiffin joining his staff. That was long before Alabama become a national powerhouse.

Kiffin leaves behind a promising USC team that will play in a rugged Pac-12 Conference that includes a a highly regarded UCLA team in Jim Mora's third season as head coach.

USC's opening game will be August 30 against Fresno State.
