Women's Club Hosts Ice Cream Social

The Culver City Woman's Club is celebrating its flapper-era past with an Ice Cream Social on Saturday, April 26 from 2 pm to 4.

The Club was founded in 1920. While going through the archives Club president Jane Thomey discovered a picture taken in 1929 of a luncheon where elegantly dressed members, some in cloche hats, posed around a Spring-themed table.

To replicate the look of the of the bygone era decorations chairman Fabiola Hensley is constructing a six-foot Maypole with streamers and with rose petals strewn under it. Surrounding tables will be covered in pastel cloths and rose petals.

The event will take place at the location of the Club's monthly meetings at the Culver Palms United Methodist Church, 4464 Sepulveda Boulevard in Culver City. Members of the community are welcome to enjoy the entertainment and to indulge in ice cream sundaes, banana splits or a simple dish of ice cream. There will be non-dairy frozen desserts for guests with restricted diets.

The cost is $10 per person. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by contacting the event chairman, Carole Kanter at 310-453-2314. All the money that is raised will be donated to charities.

In addition to granting scholarship to Culver City High students, the Club has contributed to many local Culver City organizations including the Culver Palms Meals on Wheels, The Culver City Senior Center and the Bob Hope USO at LAX.
