Easter Seals Disability Services has awarded State Senator Holly Mitchell, 26th District, the "Senate Leadership Award" for 2014 in honor of her successful work as an advocate for those with disabilities and special needs.
"Senator Mitchell has been a fantastic friend to Easter Seals," said Dee Prescott, vice president Easter Seals Southern California adult day services. "The results she has achieved as a legislative leader have made a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of Easter Seals participants in terms of their health and well-being."
Last year Senator Mitchell authored 18 bills that were chaptered into law. This year an additional 10 bills have already been chaptered into law.
"Her commitment to community service, family supports and social justice makes her a leader we are proud to honor, "Prescott added.
Senator Mitchell was elected in 2013 to represent the 26th District in the State Senate, which includes Culver City and parts of the City and County of Los Angeles.
Before serving in the California legislature, Senator Mitchell was the Chief Executive Officer of Crystal Stairs for seven years, providing quality child care for 25,000 children and championing statewide family-focused policymaking. In her subsequent time as a legislator she has continued to focus on authoring bills that assist working single mothers and children with special needs.
