The iconic Culver Studios has been sold to Los Angeles-based Hackman Capital Partners for a reported $85 million.
The studio with the signature mansion has a long history of filming famous movies including “Gone With the Wind.” The lot was originally built in 1918, housed many famous movie makers including Cecil B. De Mille, RKO, Howard Hughes, Desilu. I n the early 1990’s Sony and Grant Tinker bought the studio. It was sold in 2004 to private investors.
The studio was owned by Lehman Brothers, the bankrupt investment company.
Company spokesmen have denied recent reports that the property would be converted to condos. Hackman plans a major upgrade to the studio including additional parking.
The home of many television and movie productions including the “I Love Lucy” show, the lot currently produces “Cougar Town” and “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
