An opportunity to learn more about Covered California and get assistance with enrolling in a health insurance plan arrives on Saturday, February 22 at the Fine Arts Complex at West Los Angeles College - 9000 Overland Avenue (near Jefferson) in Culver City.
Free parking for the event, running from noon to 3 pm, will be available in the South Parking Structure next to the Fine Arts Complex.
Covered California is part of the Federal Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare). Through Covered California, people can shop and compare different prices for affordable health insurance. All plans cover "essential health benefits" which include, but are not limited to: preventive and wellness services; prescription drugs; maternity and newborn care; emergency services; lab services and mental health and substance abuse services.
In 2014, individuals who do not have minimum health coverage by March 15, independently or through their employer, will face a penalty of $95 or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater. A family will be charged a penalty of $95 per uncovered adult and $47.50 per uncovered child (up to $285 for a family) or 1 percent of the family's income, whichever is greater.
This event is sponsored by West Los Angeles College and the offices of Congresswoman Karen Bass, Senator Holly Mitchell and Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas. Also supporting the event are Dr. Clarence Shields of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic and TEAM Heal Foundation, and Culver City Chamber of Commerce President Steven Rose.
In addition to Covered California, health care providers and advisors will offers screenings and information on healthy living.
For visitors coming from north-east or east of the college, the 10100 Jefferson entrance may be more convenient.
