William Louis Schulze, Jr.

August 5, 1957-November 25, 2013

William L. Schulze, Jr., of Playa del Rey died in an accident on Monday, November 25, 2013, in Lancaster, California.

Bill was born on August 5, 1957 to William Louis Schulze, Sr. and Barbara Ann Thornton Schulze in Covington, Kentucky, the middle of three children. He attended San Mateo high school, and graduated (1975) from Avon high school in Avon, Ct. He later attended University of Southern Colorado.

An ad regional sales manager, he was a robust outdoorsman. He knew no stranger – he was easy, friendly, and confident. There was always something to talk about with Bill – sports, food, travel, the outdoor, and his beloved son Louis, or "Partner," as Bill called him.

Bill's two great passions were his only son Louis and the great outdoors. Bill didn't "dabble" or do anything "occasional." He flew planes, sailed through the water on his boats, climbed mountains and boulders with his jeep, and sped around on his motorcycle.

Bill also enjoyed golfing, biking, and hiking. With all his activities, Bill's biggest adventure was being Louis' father. Their strong father/son bond was reinforced by their love of sports – baseball, soccer, basketball, biking, hiking, track, and football.

Bill was always at his "Partner's" practices and games. One of their most memorable accomplishment was hiking Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental United States.

Bill loved the quiet beauty of the woods and found solace in the mountains. Bill left doing something that he loved; surrounded by fresh air, in a rough-and-tumble rustic environment, the kind of place he often said he would one day want to live.

Bill is survived by his son Louis; Louis' mother, Imelda Felipe; father William L. Schulze, Sr .; sister Mary Beth Schulze; nephew Paul Ostrowski, and nieces Lauren and Stephanie Peter. He was predeceased by his sister Kimberly Peter, who died in August, and his mother who died in 1974.

A memorial service was held at Gates, Kingsley, & Gates Smith Shalsbury Funeral Home in Culver City on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
