Police shot and wounded a man Friday afternoon outside a convenience store in Culver City after he pointed a shotgun at them, authorities said.

After receiving a call that a man armed with a shotgun was near the 7-11 on Washington Boulevard and Huron Avenue Culver City police arrived at about 2:30 p.m. and were confronted by the suspect.

After a short foot chase the man reportedly pointed a shotgun at the officers. Three Culver City Police Officers opened fire, hitting the suspect. No officers were injured.

As is policy with officer involved shootings Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives were dispatched to the conduct the investigation.

An abandoned vehicle which crashed into a fence was found close by at Elenda Street and Marietta Avenue, several blocks from the scene of the shooting. It appears the suspect exited the vehicle with the shotgun and wandered down the street.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Traffic was snarled into the early evening as Washington Boulevard was shut down in both directions between Sepulveda Boulevard and Overland Avenue while the investigation continued.
