The truth is that a Culver City loss this week would be one of the hardest to digest in school history.
Culver City can clinch the Ocean League championship by defeating a winless opponent that has given up at least 40 points in eight of its nine games.
After Santa Monica beat Beverly Hills, 76-0, its coach, Travis Clark said "they are really hurting."
It is a road game and nothing is certain in sports but, clearly, overconfidence should be the Centaurs' only barrier to overcome.
SANTA MONICA
With Culver City eyeing the league championship, Santa Monica will try to hold onto second place in its game at Hawthorne.
Last week Santa Monica defeated Inglewood, 21-0. Santa Monica's only league loss was to Culver City.
ST. MONICA
After winning two playoff games last season the Mariners are in danger of not being selected this season.
St. Monica was fourth in the Santa Fe League as it entered its regular season finale Thursday night against Salesian.
BRENTWOOD
The Eagles kept their CIF playoff hopes alive with a 31-28 victory over Marshall in Pasadena.
Harry Schwartz caught nine passes, one for a touchdown.
This Friday at 2 pm Brentwood will host Sierra Canyon with the winning team likely to be in the playoffs and the losing team having its season end.
WINDWARD
A 49-12 loss to Paraclete leaves Windward needing a win over visiting Kilpatrick Friday in a 2 pm game for the sake of its playoff hopes.
The Eagles have two league losses.
VENICE
The Gondoliers continued their romp through the Western League with a 49-0 victory over Fairfax.
On Friday night Venice will host long-time rival Westchester at 7 pm.
