Cast Set For New Douglas Play

Casting has been announced for the world premiere of “The Black Suits,” which begins previews October 27 at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. Opening night is November 3 and performances run through November 24.

“The Black Suits” has music and lyrics by Joe Iconis, book by Iconis and Robert Emmett Maddock and is directed by John Simpkins, with choreography by Jennifer Werner and music direction and orchestrations by Charlie Rosen.

The cast features Jimmy Brewer, Harrison Chad, Veronica Dunne, Coby Getzug, Annie Golden and Will Roland.

“The Black Suits” has set design by Derek McLane, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Ben Stanton and sound design by ACME Sound. Casting is by Merri Sugarman, CSA, of Tara Rubin Casting, with Los Angeles casting by Mark B. Simon, CSA. The production stage manager is Kirsten Parker.

Set in a garage in suburban Long Island, “The Black Suits” tells the tale of four boys (lead singer, guitar, bass and drums) who are preparing for stardom by way of the St. Anne’s Battle of the Bands.

The band and the music give focus and sustenance to the boys whose lives are filled with teenage angst and longing, struggles with friends and girlfriends, and the need to make choices. For one brief summer they find escape in the camaraderie of the band, the sheer fun of creating and playing music and the core belief in the “transformative coolness of rock ‘n’ roll.”

Tickets are available at http://www.CenterTheatreGroup.org, the CTG box office located at the Ahmanson Theatre or by calling (213) 628-2772.
