Candidate Claudia Vizcarra Begins Campaign

It was standing room only at the kickoff event last Sunday for School Board candidate Claudia Vizcarra. The shaded backyard on Coolidge Avenue was filled with neighbors, friends, supporters, and campaign workers to help Claudia begin her quest to gain a seat on the Culver City School Board.

Current School Board member Nancy Goldberg and former School Board President Barbara Honig spoke about Claudia’s unique qualifications for the position. A parent with two children in Culver Schools, active in PTA and serving on the English Learners Advisory Committee, she is well informed about issues facing the District.

Claudia currently is Chief of Staff for LAUSD School Board Vice President Steve Zimmer who also was at the event and told those gathered about her experience in developing district policies and her ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

Possessing the skills of being bilingual and bi-cultural provides her with a strong understanding of various segments of the community.

At the end of the speeches and snacks, the candidate announced a free event to be held on Sunday, September 15 in Carlson Park, at the corner of Braddock Drive and Motor Avenue. It will begin at 11 a.m. with bagels and pan dulce being served.

Everyone is invited to attend to talk with Claudia and learn why she is running for School Board. She is looking forward to meeting neighbors and sharing her vision.
