Happy New Year 5774.

Rosh Hashanah begins on Wednesday evening, September 4 (Light Candles at 6:58 pm).

The last time it was this early in the year was in 1899.

The Mitzvah on Rosh Hashanah is to hear the sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn.

If you can only come to services for a short time - then try to be there for SHOFAR blowing.

Additional Rosh Hashanah observances include:

a) Eating a piece of apple dipped in honey, to symbolize our desire for a sweet year.

b) Blessing one another with the words "Leshanah tovah tikateiv veteichateim," "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."

c) Tashlich, a special prayer said near a body of water, in evocation of the verse, "And You shall cast their sins into the depths of the sea."
