Sue Robins Announces School Board Candidacy
Culver City parent, former Culver City Middle School science teacher and education leader Sue Robins announces that she is running for School Board in the November 2013 elections.
“My role as a teacher, volunteer and parent gives me insight into our schools. I know first-hand the strengths we have in this district and the urgent challenges we face. If elected, I will focus on fostering a culture of academic excellence that celebrates student and teacher achievements,” she said.
Robins is the parent of a Culver City High graduate, and is past Farragut PTA president. She is a former CCMS science teacher. Her passion for involvement in Culver City continues, as she serves as Education Committee Chair on the Culver City Chamber of Commerce Executive Board.
Currently she teaches college students and professionals at UC Irvine Extension. An advocate of helping at-risk girls succeed, she is Director of Programs for EmpowHer Institute Board of Directors. EmpowHer Institute empowers girls and women by helping them gain the skills necessary through education, training and entrepreneurship to seek fulfilling and productive lives.
She is a graduate of the Riordan Board Leadership Institute and she earned an M.S. in Education from Mt. St. Marys. For the past few years, Robins has created and facilitated high-level curriculum development, instruction and training for students, educators and business professionals with her company Ascend Training Solutions.
Robins lays out her school board goals:
A. STUDENTS: Foster a culture of academic excellence and celebrate success in academics, science/technology projects, arts and sports.
B. TEACHERS: Ensure professional development that empowers our teachers to develop and use current “best practices” teaching strategies.
C. PARENTS: Create partnerships between teachers and parents which enhance our ability to deliver high quality instruction.
D. COMMUNITY: As the Education Chair of Culver City’s Chamber of Commerce, Robins will seek partnerships with organizations that will support efforts in technology and science.
“For the past 10 years I have created and facilitated high-level curriculum development, instruction and training for students, educators and business professionals. I hope to use this experience to make Culver City the educational shining star of California,” says Robins.
