For the first time in the history of Culver City High girl’s water polo the Centaurs have advanced to the semi-finals of the CIF playoffs.
“The Final Four,” said Athletic Director Tom Salter.
The historic win was over Pasadena Poly, 10-8.
“I’m dreaming,” said Coach Nestor Dordoni. “I don’t know what to say.”
Dordoni was looking back on 32 years of experience.
“It was a team effort,” said Nestor Dordoni Jr., son of the long-time head coach. “I’m very proud of the girls.”
Olivia Valdez, one if the team’s captains, believes the Centaurs’ remarkable season is a reward for hard work.
“I feel that we earned it,’ she said.
Centaur Ruth Busarto said the Centaurs didn’t know much about their opponent before the game.
That made us a little nervous bit it was a good game,” she said.
While compiling a 25-1 record with the only loss coming against Santa Monica the Centaurs have advanced further than their long-time rivals in the playoffs. Santa Monica was eliminated in the first round.
