Baseball and softball tryouts for boys and girls interested in playing in the Culver City Little League will be held this Saturday and Sunday.
All players who want to join must attend at least one of the tryouts, unless they are ill or have another valid excuse, a Little League official said.
Hours of the tryouts at Bill Botts Field, 9710 Jefferson Blvd., vary based on the age of the youngster and experience. A full schedule can be found at the league’s web site, http://www.culvercitylittleleague.org, or kids and their parents can get the information by calling Little League officials at (424) 258-5720.
For the first time, the Culver City Little League has also established a “transitional league” for 11- to 13-year-olds whose advanced skills include rules that are closer to conventional baseball, such as leading-off bases and pickoff attempts,
“It is a league for kids whose advanced skills may get them to high-school baseball or beyond,” said Patrick Wilson, Little League spokesmen.
Wilson said that a tournament structure for the new “Intermediate Baseball Division” has been developed, with play ending in a World Series each year. The inaugural series will be held in the Northern California City of Livermore in August, Wilson said.
