14 Hostages Freed after Rape and Stabbing
Culver City Police assisted the Los Angeles Police Department in setting up a perimeter following last Thursday night’s brazen robbery and hostage situation at the Nordstrom Rack in the Promenade at Howard Hughes Center that was reported just after 10 p.m.
An employee of the store reportedly phoned her spouse in reporting the robbery.
Officers observed a man come out of the store and then run back inside when he saw the police officers.
The suspects eventually escaped in a white SUV and LAPD SWAT officers rescued the 14 hostages. An additional 200 patrons were detained inside the nearby theater complex until officers had secured the area.
One hostage was stabbed and a second was sexually assaulted multiple times.
Culver City Police located the vehicle early Friday at Washington Blvd. and Globe Avenue near the 405 Freeway and contacted LAPD.
Five suspects have been apprehended. Troy Hammock, Everett Allen and Raymond Sherman were booked on suspicion of robbery. Rochelle Sherman and Paula Bradbury were booked on suspicion of being accessories to the crime.
Raymond Sherman Jr. was captured in Arizona and has been charged with two counts of forcible rape, one count of oral copulation, kidnapping for rape, assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree robbery.
Troy Marsay Hammock, 29, and Everett Oneal Allen, 24, were charged with second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
Four of the suspects were arraigned Tuesday and plead not guilty. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba ordered Hammock to remain jailed in lieu of $780,000 bail.
Rochelle Monique Sherman, 33, and Paula Roneshia Bradley, 29, are charged with one count each of being an accessory after the fact and plead not guilty. They are being held in lieu of $25,000 bail each.
Sherman is awaiting extradition from Arizona.
