LACCD Board of Trustees Authorizes Implementation of New Student Information System
The Board of Trustees of the Los Angeles Community College District, which includes West Los Angeles College in Culver City, has authorized CIBER Inc., a global information technology company, to serve as the implementation vendor for LACCD’s new student information system. Oracle/People Soft Campus Solutions will be the software vendor.
“SIS will be a key component in the district’s educational program,” said LACCD board president Steve Veres, “providing invaluable services to student, faculty and staff for the district and its nine colleges.”
Both companies have a long list of satisfied clients in the world of education. People Soft is currently in use on over 800
campuses in 20 countries. Ciber has implemented the software at 12 of the 13 California community colleges running People Soft.
“This software is designed specifically for higher education,” said Betsy Regalado, SIS Project Director for LACCD. “It will enable students to access the SIS system anytime, anywhere and from any mobile device. The self-service features will allow them to review their academic transcripts, monitor their financial aid eligibility and disbursement schedule, make basic student information changes, and add and drop classes through their own personalized student portal. Students will no longer need to wait in line for basic admission transactions at the colleges or be placed on hold when calling for general information.”
SIS will also be a data source for faculty and staff working on accreditation, Achieving the Dream and other student learning outcomes. It will link faculty assignments to the courses they teach, record grades and manage student fees.
The system will allow access to alumni and visitors as well, while protecting sensitive data.
