Freestyle Fellowship and Breakestra

Thursday, August 16 | 7 pm

BP Grand Entrance | $10 members, $15 general admission

Freestyle Fellowship and Breakestra co-headline the fourth installment of Through the Mic, with an infusion of jazz, funk, and soul with hip hop.

Forming at the legendary underground hip-hop haven Good Life Cafe, Freestyle Fellowship features Aceyalone, Myka 9, P.E.A.C.E., and Self Jupiter. Since the independent release of 1991's To Whom It May Concern, Freestyle Fellowship's indelible mark has involved stream-of-consciousness rhymes, intricate wordplay, powerful battle raps, and thoughtful spoken word poetry that incorporates jazz, funk, soul, and reggae all under the umbrella of hip hop.

Gallery Course: Art of the Middle Ages

Saturday, August 18 | 8:30 am The art created during the Middles Ages has frequently puzzled viewers. It doesn’t resemble what preceded it nor what followed. Focusing on the museum's permanent collection, ranging from Roman marbles to the early Renaissance, educator Mary Lenihan discusses the changes in technique and subject matter that help explain this long period in art history. A private gallery tour follows the lecture.
