One-time Dodger Mickey Hatcher is back in the organization.
Hatcher, who was released as the Angels’ hitting coach after the team got off to a slow start this season, was signed by the Dodgers for a different role this week.
Hatcher will become Special Assistant to General Manager Ned Colletti, focusing on player development and assisting the major league staff.
The Dodgers previously signed outfielder Bobby Abreu this season after he was released by the Angels. Last season they signed outfielder Juan Rivera after he was sent away by the Angels.
In Abreu’s first at-bat in the Angels’ stadium as a Dodger two weeks ago he hit a three-run homer.
In the 1988 World Series, the Dodgers’ last championship, Hatcher hit two home runs and in five games had five RBI and five runs scored.
‘Hiring Mickey is a huge positive step for the Dodgers,’ said Colletti.
“It’s a great feeling coming home,” said Hatcher. “This is where my roots are.”
