Dear Editor,

Thank you for covering the State hearing on Fracking.

The outpouring of concern reflects what is happening in many parts of the world where people are beginning to suffer the ill effects of this risky unconventional process of oil & gas extraction.

Now we need to show up again at Culver City Hall on July 2 to support our City Council and Staff to stand strong as our Leaders and demand the protection of the Commons (air, water, land) – the necessities of life itself.

When the Industry says the process is 60 years old, they are playing with the truth --

similar to comparing damages from one of today's Mack trucks to one of the vintage trucks at the recent car show. False comparisons. The oil companies lobbyists and PR people are trying to sell us 'snake oil' to cover up the magnitude of potential damages.

That's why there is growing worldwide opposition to fracking. Countries that care for the people's vital needs, such as Germany, South Africa, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Ireland and others, as well as over 140 municipalities (local, County & some States) in the United States have put bans or moratoriums on this risky process until it can be proven safe.

(See http://keeptapwatersafe.org/2012/05/31/crying-the-bans-fracking-opposition-worldwide).

If you too believe that breathable air, drinkable water, and stable food producing and shelter providing earth are essential for human life, then please join the swelling ranks demanding that our governing bodies (City, County & State) put the primacy of our vital needs over corporate private economic interests. Demand democracy. Do not allow Big Oil to deplete and exploit our resources.
