Lakers Hold Viewing Party at Culver Senior Center

Last Friday evening Lakers employees joined 100 seniors at the Culver City Senior Center for dinner and Game 3 of the NBA Playoffs series between the Lakers and Denver Nuggets.

Upon entering the dining/viewing area of the Senior Center, the patrons were greeted by Lakers staffers and given a “ONE AT A TIME” t-shirt and raffle ticket to be entered in to the halftime prize raffle.

Once fully inside the multipurpose room the patrons could see that purple and gold was everywhere, from table decorations to the Lakers’ 16th Larry O’Brien Trophy from 2010. Lucille’s BBQ was once again kind enough to supply a meal for the viewing party and the seniors feasted upon barbequed chicken or pork, coleslaw, rolls and baked beans.

After dinner, the group gathered by the large projection screen to cheer on the Lakers. Before the game began Adrian Garcia Marquez and Francisco Pinto, the Lakers’ new Spanish commentators for Time Warner Cable, welcomed everyone . This was the first time that Marquez and Pinto had been out in the community with the Lakers organization..

As the Lakers got off to a less than stellar start, Bill McDonald on KCAL gave the Culver City Senior Center a shout out on the air. The entire center immediately erupted with cheers.

During halftime, Lakers Community Relation Director Jason McDevitt led the seniors in some light stretching to get them loosened up for the second half. Then Garcia Marquez began the raffle which included autographed items from Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and Steve Blake.
