Culver Baseball Wins First Four Games

The Culver City High baseball team is highly regarded. The Centaurs were ranked No. 4 in their division in the pre-season CIF poll.

They were the only Ocean League team in the top 10.

So far, so good for Coach Rick Prieto’s team.

Culver began the season with five non-league games in eight days and won the first four before losing to Buena, 4-3.

The victories were against Venice (10-3), Roosevelt (7-0), Taft (6-5) and Hueneme (8-0).

Senior Tyler Marks and freshman Jay Steiner were the winning pitchers twice each. Senior pitcher Brian Ibarra worked eight effective innings.

Darian Sylvester, Skylar Blocker, George Aceves, Jon Kocker and Ibarra had multiple-hit games.

Culver will play another non-league game Friday at 3:15 pm, hosting New Roads of Santa Monica.

New Roads began its season with an 8-1 non-league win over St. monica.
