Culver Boys Make Playoffs

Jon Chapman was right.

The Culver City High boys basketball coach said he expected the Centaurs to receive a CIF playoff berth even if they didn’t finish in the top three in the Ocean League..

The league gets three automatic playoff berths but there was a possibility of an at-large berth because the league is so highly regarded.

By losing its final league game to Beverly Hills, Culver finished in a fourth place tie with Morningside but both teams were given at-large berths.

Culver will play a first round playoff game at Savannah High of Anaheim Friday night.

Savannah won 22 games but its schedule was not considered difficult.

“We have the two premier scorers, Aamahd Walker and Keilan Horton, but we haven’t had much scoring from anyone else,” said Chapman. “This makes our team easier to defend.”

Evaluating the season and a record with as many losses as wins, Chapman said “It’s been frustrating at times. But we’ve competed and come close in several games we lost.”

Santa Monica won the league championship amd Inglewood was second.

The Ocean League champion Culver City girls team will begin the CIF playoffs in a home game Saturday at 7 pm against El Dorado High of Placentia.

The girls concluded a perfect 10-0 league season wuth a 47-24 victory at Beverly Hills.
