Just one day after playing a non-league match against Windward, the Culver City High girls volleyball team looked sluggish in as 25-10, 25-18, 25-18 home loss to defending Ocean League champion Santa Monica on October 5.
The Lady Centaurs never held a lead as the visitors used early scoring runs to take command of each set. The teams will meet again Oct. 20 at Santa Monica.
"A lot of our matches and games are close right now," Culver City Coach Chris Fraijo said. "Errors seem to be haunting us right now--hitting errors and serving errors, mainly. If we can rectify those two areas of our game, I think we will be okay."
Tiara Wallace led the Lady Centaurs with eight kills, Torrey Mitsunaga had 12 assists and Mychelle Hale and Ashanti Stewart each had eight digs. Hale had 23 service receptions with only two errors and Stewart had 10 receptions with two errors. Wallace leads Culver City with 75 kills and Mitsunaga, a senior setter, has 21 service aces and 130 assists so far this season.
Culver City (1-6-1 overall, 1-1 in league) continues league play this week, traveling to Inglewood on Tuesday and hosting Beverly Hills on Thursday. Culver City and Beverly Hills tied for second place last season after splitting their head-to-head matches.
