It is that time of year again when over a hundred girls and boys ages 3 to 17 prepare for The Marat Daukeyev Ballet Theatre’s presentation of The Nutcracker. This holiday favorite and one of the most treasured classical ballets of all time is brought to life by the Marat Daukeyev Ballet Theatre’s spectacular 10th anniversary production on December 11th and 12th in downtown Los Angeles at the Japan American Theatre.
The students rehearse hours and hours at the studio under the tutelage of Stella Gardier, Hasmik Amirian-Benet, and Artistic Director Marat Daukeyev. This year Culver City skater Elizabeth Addas will dance several soloist roles including the Chinese solo and the Columbine doll solo, as well as the the Angel, Pas de Trois and the Snow entourage and Waltz of the Flowers entourage.
A sixth grader at the Calthorp School, Elizabeth participated last spring in the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) an international student ballet and contemporary dance competition. She was as a finalist in New York City. Elizabeth's ice theatre team ("ballet on ice") won the 2010 Theatre On Ice Senior National and International Championships last June. She has won/placed in seven LA/Orange County figure skating competitions.
Students in the production study at the Marat Daukayev Ballet School located mid-Wilshire. The school opened its doors at the Dance Arts Academy on LA Brea (south of Wilshire) 10 years ago and offers training in Russian classical ballet to children three years old and up.
