I am writing you because I have recently been through the ordeal of losing a pet (my cat –Kiki). When it first happens you think, “Oh she’ll be home she’s probably in a garage or something, but being Christmas week, how long would she be in that garage?
As time went on and worry set in, I started to extend my search with the help of friends, from calling her name, searching the Shelters, to littering flyers to neighbors around my home, telephone poles, registering her on SPCA-LA web site, both shelters, Pet finders, all the local vet’s bulletin boards, Culver City Observer, Craig’s list, Friends of Culver City Animals and Avid, because she is chipped and where’s a collar with ID.
Around day five I remembered that Culver City had finally got an Animal Control Officer in place. I thought, great another person that could help me coordinate my search for her. But much to my surprise, when I called a few times (leaving messages with no response) I find out that, we no longer have this Officer. As a Culver City resident, I sincerely hope that the City is seeking to find a replacement for that position. It is such valuable position to this community.
Culver City has always been about family, friends and animals. It has always been a city I could count on for helping me with my needs. We are such an animal friendly town, we even have our own dog park, and we also have networks of caring people that really do put the word out to help you. Having such an Officer in place, might have made my search for her easier by guiding me to all my options quicker, instead of countless hours on the computer to figuring it out by myself. .
With the flyers on doors we found out that she had been seen. I received a call from a family that lives at the top of Mentone, informing me that she was in their yard that morning.
I am one of the lucky ones. After 13 Days, Kiki was found on New Years Day under that house which was once my Grandparents home for 51 years. I am not sure how she got down there but I guess it is could be true that when kids run away they always go to Gramma’s.
I thank my friends and Carlson Park neighbors for their care and concern in getting Kiki home safe, and the Culver City Observer for putting the word out for me.
