Culver City high school 's Academy of Visual and Performing Arts (AVPA) presents "Music for the Holidays" on Tuesday, December 15 at the Robert Frost Auditorium ( 4401 Elenda Street ). Doors open at 6:30 pm with pre-concert entertainment by the Chamber Singers and Jazz Combo. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm . Admission is a suggested donation of $5 and up, but no one will be turned away.
The annual winter concert, directed by Dr. Tony Spano and Lisa Michel, will feature the AVPA Chamber Singers and Jazz Ensemble, along with the Culver City High School Concert Band. Some highlights of the concert will include an arrangement of the "Nutcracker Suite" performed by the Chamber Singers along with dancers choreographed by AVPA's Creative Director of Dance Julie Carson. The Jazz Ensemble will perform holiday favorites, including the Dr. Seuss classic, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." The Concert Band will perform music from "The Nightmare Before Christmas," as well as a whimsical musical setting of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" with a surprise special guest narrator.
There will also be performances by the AVPA String Ensemble, coached by parent volunteer and musician Dr. Tania Fleisher, Brass Ensemble, a student-led ensemble formed by senior Zak Malsich, and Jazz Combo, coached by musician Eric Paterson.
The music program at Culver City High School and AVPA is entirely funded by grants, donations, and fundraising, so come out and support arts education while celebrating the holidays with music!
