The Santa Monica College Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery will present the annual SMC Art Department Student Exhibit. The theme for this year's show is "Are You Seen?" The exhibition - featuring 70 pieces chosen from more than 150 works submitted by students in SMC's art classes - will be open to the public from Monday, May 6, through Monday, May 20, with a gallery reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11.
SMC art students selected the exhibition's theme with these thoughts in mind:
Consider your past, present, and future self - how do you want to be seen internally or externally? To be seen is to feel loved, accepted, respected, included, and validated. What does perception mean to you and what is it all for? Your perception differs from those around you, so how has your personal experience affected your own perception of the world around you? Allow for your inner vision to portray how you feel seen.
SMC's Pete & Susan Barrett Art Gallery is located at the SMC Performing Arts Center, 1310 11th Street (at Santa Monica Boulevard), Santa Monica. Exhibits, gallery talks, and opening receptions are free.
