Dear CCUSD Community, I want to thank you for your understanding, patience and cooperation as we made the difficult decision to cancel school for the remainder of this week. We realize that having your children home from school so unexpectedly undoubtedly caused hardship for many families. However, given the rapid rise in positive Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles County, and among our students, faculty and staff, we believe this short-term closure was the most prudent thing to do. CCUSD’s top p...

John Alle Santa Monica Property and Business Owner For the first time in over a quarter century, the organization designated to manage Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade and Downtown, will have a new Director. What began as a volunteer business owner organization, and later became one of the first "business improvement districts" funded by property owners, has since become a bloated quasi-City agency. The business owners on the Promenade pay a higher percentage of assessments than other members of DTSM, yet the City selects a majority of its...

Living beyond our means, which is what we are doing, is inherently unsustainable: Pollution, natural disasters, and generally reduced quality of life for everyone, now and increasingly in the future, are some examples of the fallout. Small businesses are in the driver’s seat SMEs have a disproportionate impact on the ecosystem, thanks to their sheer numbers, size, and scope of operations. T...
